Biography
Janice Gatty has served on the faculty at Smith College since 1977. She teaches undergraduate courses in counseling theory and education, and graduate courses in early development of children who are deaf and hard of hearing and family-centered intervention.
Gatty is co-author (with Arthur Boothroyd) of The Deaf Child in a Hearing Family: Nurturing Development. Her publications include articles and book chapters on perceptual development, play in young children, the effects of technology on deaf and hard-of-hearing children and their families, and family-centered early intervention. Gatty is also the director of Child & Family Services at the Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech, where she continues to do face-to-face and virtual early intervention with families of children who are deaf or hard of hearing.
