Biography
Justin Baumann is a marine ecophysiologist and biogeochemist who uses field, laboratory, and computational techniques to study the effects of climate change on marine invertebrates.
His research mainly focuses on Caribbean corals but his lab also studies temperate corals in MA and RI and mussels, seagrass, and oysters in the Gulf of Maine. Justin is also appointed in the Department of Biological Sciences at Mount Holyoke College. He earned his BS in Biology and Earth Sciences and MS in Earth Sciences from The Ohio State University and his PhD in Marine Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he was a Department of Defense NDSEG fellow. Justin was a postdoc at UNC and a visiting professor at Bowdoin College before joining MHC in 2022 and Smith in 2023.
