Mary Murphy's fields of interest include writing to learn mathematics, mathematics education and singing.

Murphy’s current project is a reform of the introductory mathematics course at the University of Carmen Pampa in rural Bolivia. The initial version of her Manual de Matemáticas was used for the course in 2016 and will be revised every year as needed.
