Nancy Shumate teaches classes in Latin and Greek language and literature as well as several courses on classical literature and culture in translation. Her main area of interest is the literature and culture of the early empire, including Roman satire and the Roman novel. In addition to her books, she has published articles and book chapters on various aspects of Latin literature and Roman culture. Her current interest is in the ideological uses of contrasts between country and city.
