Biography

Rosie Dutt is a lecturer in both the statistical and data sciences and computer science departments at Smith College. She is approaching the end of her doctorate at Washington University in St. Louis, where she focuses on applying machine learning techniques to resting-state scans of the brain to predict depression alongside positive and negative daily life events.

Dutt’s focus is teaching. She teaches core subjects in computer science at the undergraduate level and is committed to making data science more accessible for beginners and non-majors. Her teaching philosophy is centered around using student-centered approaches and active learning techniques to maximize learning in the classroom. Her previous degrees in psychology, chemistry, engineering and biomedical sciences enable Dutt to bring an interdisciplinary lens to her teaching and foster cross-department collaboration.
