Marina Kaplan was born in Argentina and has lived in many different places. Her most sustained residencies, in terms of time and affect, were Buenos Aires, New Orleans and now the Pioneer Valley.
She came to Smith College in 1987 with an interdisciplinary doctorate in Latin American studies and a bachelor's degree in English. While teaching Latin American literature and culture at Smith, at the 200 and 300 levels, Kaplan developed interests in the direction of postcolonialism and theory.
