Global media leader, philanthropist, producer and actress Oprah Winfrey delivered the address at Smith College’s 139th Commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 21, 2017.

In addition to Winfrey, honorary degrees were awarded to Clare Higgins, executive director at Community Action and former mayor of Northampton; Michelle Kwan, Olympic medalist and world and U.S. champion figure skater; Henrietta Mann, Native American education and tribal leader and founding president of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribal College; and Erin O’Shea ’88, president of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and Harvard University professor.
