Break Information

Expenses during college breaks are not included in Smith’s yearly student budget. Please prepare accordingly.

House Closings

Most college houses do not stay open year-round. Unless you are in specific year-round housing, you will need to plan to move during winter and summer recesses. Although houses remain open during Thanksgiving and spring breaks, you must sign up with Residence Life if you wish to stay during those breaks.

See the current academic calendar for dates.

Fees

Effective Spring 2019, all fees associated with Thanksgiving and Spring Break periods have been eliminated. There are no fees for students who remain on campus during Thanksgiving and/or Spring Break. Students are still required to sign up in advance for housing during these break periods. There is no fee charged for winter recess.

During January term, houses are open and you can stay in your room free of charge until the start of spring semester. Please contact Residence Life for more information or to request that fees be waived.

Winter Break

Since the college is officially closed during the winter break, winter break housing will only be available to international students, and the ISSO has casual programming for international students.

Students will move to Cutter/Ziskind rooms during the period from December 18-January 2, and no dining hall facilities will be available.

Housing Form

The Winter Break Housing form will go live on The Housing Director after Thanksgiving break. There is no charge for housing; if you need financial assistance to purchase groceries, please note that in your housing form. Residence Life will arrange housing assignments during the break, and the ISSO will handle reimbursements for your grocery expense needs.
