Teaching to Empower

What is the best way to teach about social injustices in the current political landscape where such issues are so front and center? Carrie Baker, professor and director for the Study of Women and Gender at Smith, has some strategies. Here, she discusses her methods of “Teaching to Empower,” which is also the subject of an article she published in the scholarly journal Feminist Formations. Baker is also a regular writer for Ms. magazine and the author of the recent Fighting the US Youth Sex Trade: Gender, Race, and Politics.
