“It is incredibly rewarding to know that our research will be useful to future generations of Smith students, faculty and staff.”

As part of a special studies class, I conducted research concerning significant trees on Smith’s campus. I collaborated with three other students, each of us focusing on a different tree. As part of this research, we delved into the college archives and met directly with botanic garden staff who would benefit from our work. I researched the Eastern Hemlock tree on campus, which is currently suffering from Woolly Adelgid infestation. I also helped create an online story map of campus trees using ArcGIS. It is incredibly rewarding to know that our research and written reports will be useful to future generations of Smith students, faculty and staff.
