Residence life is part of Smith’s co-curricular environment that enhances and enriches the academic program. Students come from varied backgrounds, and the house community provides a supportive, social environment for them to learn about and appreciate one another’s experiences and differences.

Fall Arrival Information

Central Check-In (CCI) is for entering (first-years, transfer students and Ada Comstock Scholars) and readmitted students. CCI for students entering in the fall of 2023 will be held on September 1, 2023, from 8-11 a.m. in the Indoor Track and Tennis Facility (ITT).

Returning students check-in will be held on September 5 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and September 6 from 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. in the Campus Center.

Early Arrivals

Students who are pre-approved for early arrival will receive email communication from Residence Life in early August.

Any student may return to campus on Sunday, September 3 from 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. for an early arrival fee of $150 to be charged to their student account. Students are not required to pre-register for this early arrival date and OneCards will be activated on-site at key pick-up. Financial assistance or waivers are not available for early arrival fees.

Key pick-up for all early arrivals will take place in the Indoor Track and Tennis Facility (ITT).

Fall 2023 Housing Assignments Unavailable

Effective June 30, 2023, Residence Life will begin updating all entering and returning student housing assignments for the Fall 2023 semester in preparation for Fall billing. During this time, all Fall 2023 housing assignments will be unavailable for viewing on Residence Life Self-Service. All students will be able to resume viewing their Fall 2023 housing assignment in Residence Life Self-Service in early August.

Petition to Live Off-Campus (Deadline Extension)

Residence Life will continue to accept off-campus housing requests after the June 1 deadline. Any student who wishes to move off-campus may petition to do so by completing the Petition to Live Off-Campus, which is available via Residence life Self-Service. Juniors and Seniors will be given priority, although all class years will be considered. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis through August 15. Applications submitted after this date will be evaluated on a case by case basis.

Trunk Room Storage

All house trunk rooms are now closed. If you require access to your house trunk room, please contact your house residence life staff or neighborhood Area Director to schedule an appointment. Trunk room access will resume in May. Students who require access to JMG trunk room can view Spring/Summer 2023 JMG Storage Hours on the Residence Life website.  If you need to seek off campus storage and/or shipping options. Smith College's preferred vendor for storage is Boomerang Storage.

Petition to Live Off-Campus 

Students interested in off-campus housing for the Fall 2024 semester must apply via the Petition to Live Off-Campus, which will be available via Residence life Self-Service on April 13. Juniors and Seniors will be given priority, although all class years will be considered. The application deadline is June 1.

Student Staff Selection

Applications are now available to be a part of the Residence Life Student Staff team.
