Recruiting

The Lazarus Center helps students and young alumnae connect with employers who have full-time job opportunities and internships. Graduating students may review available job opportunities, research participating organizations' websites, submit resumes and sign up for interviews. Employers also have the option to conduct interviews at their own workplaces and the Lazarus Center will collect student resumes for them.

Many employers hold late afternoon and early evening information sessions on campus. These programs provide students with information about employers in an informal setting before the interview process begins. Schedules of upcoming sessions are available in Handshake.

Recruiting Programs Event Cancellation Policy

Once you are on an interviewer's schedule or have submitted an RSVP to a recruiting event, you have made a commitment to meet with that employer. If you are unable to keep a scheduled appointment, you owe the recruiter and the Lazarus Center the courtesy of canceling with a minimum of 24 hours notice.

In the event that you are ill or an emergency occurs, please contact us (X2582) no later than 8:30 a.m. on the morning of the interview. Another student on the waiting list may then have an opportunity to interview with the recruiter.

Occasionally students have not appeared for scheduled interviews or recruiting events—an embarrassing situation for everyone. In the event that you do not appear for your interview at the scheduled time without canceling, you will forfeit all privileges of participating in the recruiting program.

On occasion, employers cancel a recruiting date without rescheduling. If our staff cannot persuade them to reschedule, we will automatically forward to them the resumes of those students who had expressed an interest in interviewing with them. We suggest you follow-up with a letter reiterating your interest in the position.

Working with our on-campus recruiting program should be a small part of your job search strategy, since most employers do not have an organized recruiting program. While the Lazarus Center invites organizations from various career fields to interview Smith seniors, employers choose their own recruiting strategy in terms of campus visits. Most companies who do come to campus usually pre-screen the resumes of students, although some have an open sign-up schedule. On-campus recruiting occurs in both the fall and spring semesters; be sure to check schedules frequently.
