Reason #12 You Should Visit
Beautiful gardens on campus
My heart has always been set on pursuing a career in coaching collegiate athletes. I have passion for the game of tennis, but ultimately my commitment is to my student-athletes and their collegiate experience. When I first arrived at the Grécourt Gates of Smith College and I opened the doors of Ainsworth Gymnasium, I knew this was a special place for me to grow and develop into the coach I aspire to be.
I appreciate how the exercise and sports studies program allows me to learn and discuss issues with my classmates and colleagues not just in the classroom, but on the playing grounds in which we truly excel. All head coaches and ESS professors are accessible mentors and provide support systems throughout our two-year experience. Everyone dedicates themselves to our development as coaches, athletic trainers, strength and conditioning coaches, administrators and individuals.
The relationship between Smith athletics and the exercise and sports studies department allows graduate students to balance the demands of being a graduate student with the responsibilities of being an assistant coach. I am extremely fortunate to have both departments on my team. Their support enabled me to be accepted to the NCAA Women Coaches Academy (Class of 43) and named as a member of the Smith Athletic Key Pioneer Leadership Committee. These valuable opportunities have assisted in the development of my coaching career and me as leader.
Despite all my personal achievements throughout this program, I could not have done it without the support of the Smith tennis team and coaching staff. I enjoy discussing practice plans and strategies because I always learn something new or think of something in a different way. Being a part of the student-athlete’s holistic experience is such an honor that allows me to serve as their coach and mentor. The ESS master's program offers a unique and rewarding program. I could not be more self-fulfilled with the level of higher academics, and I am confident heading into the world of collegiate athletics. I am truly optimistic that I will be a successful, credible coach and leave a role-model footprint.
