Reason #17 You Should Visit
Paradise Pond
Smith is a place where I can learn and develop through a very specialized graduate program. I've always wanted to be a coach but I didn't know it would be to this capacity until I reached Smith. The Exercise and Sport Studies (ESS) Program has placed me with other grads who are seeking the same career path as me; however, they have diverse backgrounds and experiences to help push my thinking. The professors have come from all over the country and have an unbelievable amount of experience in their fields. Because they come from a variety of backgrounds, they are able to share unique experiences with us to help push us to be better students and future coaches.
Smith's campus is one that values diversity and inclusion. Having seen what other colleges and universities are like, it's clear Smith's commitment to individuality and expressiveness is unparalleled. To say I feel comfortable on Smith's campus would be an understatement. Other ESS students and I will frequent the athletic fields and Chapin Lawn to play what we call GASH (Grad Assistant Sports Hour). This is the most tightknit group I've ever been a part of, and I'm thankful Smith's culture has allowed for that to happen.
It is refreshing to be in an academic community where all of its members are devoted to learning and bettering themselves. I have quickly learned why Smith’s ESS program is one of two five-star accredited programs in the country. I truly don't think any other program in the country would prepare me to be a coach and mentor like this one. It is exciting to see this program growing and developing. Over 300 graduate students have already successfully passed through this program, and I'm excited to join that illustrious group of graduates next year.
