What are you most looking forward to about campus?
I’m very excited to get to know my fellow Talboteers! I can already tell how large of a role the house community will play in my life.
What drew you to Smith?
The spectacular community. I mean, when I tell you my interviewer’s eyes lit up when she talked about Smith (shout out to Allison Crosby-Thompson ‘04), it was something I hadn’t seen at any other college before.
What is something unexpected that people don’t know about you?
That I draw all of my inspiration from the amazing support network I’ve been gifted with. Getting into college was a very hard process for me. I am a first-generation student and live independently, so I never really had a traditional family to help guide me through the process. I really could not have gotten here without the unconditional support from my mentors. Mrs. Knoblock, Mrs. Jacobson, Mr. Jewett, Mrs. Smith, and Mount Holyoke alum Ms. O’Connor, if you’re reading this, I could never have done this without you (they are literally my biggest cheerleaders).
Which job has meant the most to you and why?
I’d have to say where I currently work. I work at The Daily Press Juice Bar in Cohasset, MA. I’ve been here for over three years with such an amazing team. It’s woman-owned, and my boss, Tami, and her daughter, Maddy, are both amazing role models to me. I really made a family working here, and I’m going to miss them very much when I leave for college.
What’s one problem (big or small) you’d like to work on after you graduate?
Oh, wow. I’ve been trying to tackle this question for quite some time. I’d love to work for an organization like the Trevor Project and help struggling youth seek support for mental health issues.
What do you think has been the most “Smithie” thing you’ve done in life so far?
I think taking so many risks this past year and learning my worth. For a long time I didn’t think I’d ever get the opportunity to attend college, never mind a college as prestigious as Smith. Meeting alums and current students alike has made me realize that I deserve a place in this community. I can’t think of anything more “Smithie” than that.
