Career Planning Support for Students

Advising and Programming

  • Ten career advisers are available to Smith students from the moment they arrive on campus
  • 94% of students who used Lazarus Center resources report that they would recommend the programming to a peer
  • 95% of students who used Lazarus Center resources report that the programming advanced their career education
 

Networking

  • Smith students have access to 53,000 alums in more than 130 countries and a network of over 600 companies recruiting virtually and on campus
  • Over 100,000 internships, jobs, volunteer opportunities and fellowships are posted annually in Handshake, Smith's online database of professional opportunities

Funding

  • More than 400 students per year receive Praxis grants of up to $4,500 to support unpaid internships taking place all over the world
  • 130+ students received funding through the Universal Conference Fund to attend academic and professional conferences in FY ’23. Conference funding had been doubled by the Lazarus Center this year in order to improve access and address rising travel costs
 

Fellowships

  • Smith has been a top producer of Fulbright Scholars for the past two decades. In 2023, eight students and one alum were awarded Fulbrights.
  • Our fellowships advisers have supported over 500 student applications for over 50 different fellowship opportunities since 2017. Learn more about the diverse fellowship opportunities available to our students

Post-Graduation Outcomes

Within 6 months after graduation, 97% of Smith alums are employed or studying in graduate/professional school. Use the interactive dashboard to see where our most recent graduates have gone to next.

 

Education

  • At ten years post-graduation, 70% of Smith alums have engaged in graduate or professional studies, and 99% report that Smith adequately prepared them for these experiences
  • Admit rate to law school, 2021–22: 72%
  • Admit rate to medical school, 2021–22: 80% of qualified applicants (GPAs of 3.7 or higher and MCAT scores of 512 or higher)
