About the Initiative
Time for Bold Action
Meeting our $200 million goal will require a community-wide effort, and we are asking for your partnership in securing a better future for Smith students and for our world. Eliminating financial barriers to education is a critical form of justice that we believe will help close society’s growing economic gap, lift communities and create new opportunities for generations of students and their families. The time for bold action is now.
Your Support
Our goal is $200 million in endowed scholarship funds. Reaching this goal will give us the resources to:
In supporting students through financial aid, we will fuel a vision for a new future championed by the leaders, educators, activists, artists, CEOs and policy makers who found their voices at Smith. Join us in moving our society forward in beautifully disruptive ways.
- Eliminate financial considerations in our admission decisions, allowing us to create the strongest, most diverse class possible every year.
- Take a big step toward equalizing the student experience by funding important costs that extend beyond tuition, room and board.
- Ensure Smith’s success going forward rather than losing extraordinary students to other institutions that can offer better financial aid packages to applicants.
- Prepare students to become leaders and changemakers who will build on the legacy of those Smithies who came before them.
Join us in moving our society forward and keeping Smith viable for generations to come.
Funding the Full Student Experience
Meeting students’ full need, beyond tuition and fees, is a cornerstone of our vision. Right now we strive to relieve unnecessary financial stress on students in various ways. Raising significant additional endowed funds for financial aid will allow us to do even more, including helping students pay for:
- textbooks
- technology and digital tools
- travel to conferences
- costs associated with co-curricular events
- graduate school application fees
- interview travel and clothing
- and much more
Peris Mwangi ’23
Peris is focused on changing the world for women, particularly women of color. “I am a self that is always becoming,” says the Nairobi native, the first in her family to go to college, and the very model of the change she wants other women to be able to experience.
“Financial aid creates a ripple effect as Smithies have been, and continue to be, at the forefront of the social, economic and political change that we all want to see in the world.”
