Forms
Parking for Persons With Disabilities
Persons with disability placards may park in designated spaces or white-lined spaces on campus. If you believe you qualify to park in spaces for persons with disabilities, but you do not have a placard, visit the Office of Disability Services to apply for a temporary college pass.
City Ordinance
An ordinance enacted by the Northampton City Council is in effect on the following streets near the Quadrangle: Washington Avenue, Harrison Avenue and Dryads Green. The ordinance calls for alternate-side, alternate-day parking on these streets. Illegally parked cars will be ticketed and towed at the expense of the owner. Signs are posted on both sides of the three streets indicating that cars must be moved each day at 11 a.m. Illegally parked cars present a safety hazard because they prevent access by fire engines and other emergency vehicles; thus the ordinance will be strictly enforced.
The city of Northampton has a neighborhood-only parking ordinance along Kensington Avenue. Overnight parking is not allowed on Kensington Avenue. Only Kensington Avenue property owners or their tenants are allowed to park overnight.
A third ordinance, prohibiting parking citywide within three feet of driveways, will also be strictly enforced. We caution you to take these ordinances seriously to avoid towing and ticketing charges.
Mandatory Motor Vehicle Registration
In accordance with Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 90, Section 3, as amended by the acts of 2003, every non-Massachusetts resident enrolled as a student at a school or college in the Commonwealth who operates a motor vehicle registered in another state or country during any period beginning on September 1 of any year and ending on August 31 of the following year, must file a form approved by the Registry of Motor Vehicles to have on file a signed statement that provides the following:
- Registration number and make of the motor vehicle and the state or country of registration
- Name and address of the owner
- Names and addresses of all insurers providing liability insurance covering operation of the motor vehicle
- Legal residence of the nonresident and her/his residence while attending such school or college
- Name and address of the school or college which she/he is attending
Any nonresident who fails to comply with the provisions of this law shall be punished by a fine of not more than $200.
Smith College students may complete the form and obtain a decal from the Registry of Motor Vehicles at Campus Safety, 126 West Street. There is no fee for the decal.
