The director of residence life is responsible for all areas of housing and house life at Smith; they supervise the assistant directors and work closely with the area directors and student staff.

Kia Brown

Assistant Director for Residence Life Operations

The assistant director for residence life operations is responsible for housing assignments including room assignments, spring housing lottery, the first-year room assignment process, room change requests, and extended and early-arrival housing. She also works with the director in the overall leadership of the department.

Assistant Director for Residential Education

The assistant director for residential education is responsible for creating and implementating the residential curriculum, special interest housing (including affinity spaces), supervising two area directors and managing summer staffing.

The Ivy Neighborhood Area Director (AD) personally connects with students through face-to-face interactions on a regular basis and strives to create a residential system framed by the core values of the residence life office, which are community, learning, wellness and social justice. The AD directly supervises (15-18) student staff, acts as an emergency on-call staff member for the entire campus community, makes appropriate interventions and referrals, and works closely with elected house leaders and as an adviser to house councils.
